Figs with Gorgonzola

Figs come into season twice each year, once in the spring and then again in late summer, early fall. This is a quick and tasty way to serve them that my friend Anne Stone taught me. It can be used as an appetizer or a side dish to accompany grilled meats.

One pint basket of fresh figs
4 ounces gorgonzola cheese

Slice figs in half lengthwise. Place a thin slice, or several crumbles of Gorgonzola atop each fig. Place on baking sheet and broil until cheese melts and browns slightly, about 3 minutes.  Remove and serve immediately.
